Salvation Army Delivers Gifts To 9,000 Charlotte Area Children
December 22, 2005- The Salvation Army this week will deliver gifts to 9,000 Charlotte area children, thanks to the 33 bell ringers of Charlotte Dilworth South End Rotary and others. The Dilworth Ding-A-Lings, as a wag among them labeled the bell ringers, staffed the donation kettles outside the Harris Teeter grocery store and Blackhawk Hardware in Park Road Shopping Center.
Rosemary Hill chaired the bell-ringing effort and lined up the volunteers for the Saturdays our club was responsible for staffing. The bell ringers included: Clay Andrews, Steve Argo, Richard Bullard, Dan Carrigan, Lamar Gunter, Rosemary Hill, David Hodgkins (two shifts), Wendy Kemp, Frank Kiker, Ed King, Martin Kerr, Dennis McGarry, Bob Mills, Tony Morton, Doug Phillips, Tom Philson, Gus Psomadakis, Kevin Raymer, Jane Richey, Ernie Rider, Romelle Scharnberg, Harding Shinn, Ron Skufca, Harry Stewart, Bob Teague (two shifts), Barry Thackston, Tony Thompson, Hal Tribble, Ret Turner, Van Vagianos, Evan Webster (two shifts), and Lee Wensil.
The careful reader will note that the names above fall short of 33. Some of our bell ringers did not sign legibly, so there will be some additional names in the first Dilworthian of the new year, if we can decipher the names or if they report their service to the editor. If you were a bell ringer and are not on the list above, please let the editor know so we can include your name in the next Dilworthian.
