Dilworthians Now Can Make Up In Cyberspace At eClub One

Rotarians in Mecklenburg County have a dozen options for make-ups within the county, beginning with breakfast on Monday morning through lunch on Friday. Now they have another option that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – eClub One, an on-line club where you can spend 30 minutes and earn a makeup.

The site is at http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/ and it is very user friendly.  If you have a connection to the Internet, you have no excuse for not making up because everyone can find 30 minutes some time during a week. Even if you don’t need a makeup, you may find a visit with eClub One to be fascinating.

Just as traditional Rotary Clubs, eClub One has projects.  Their Centennial Project was the construction of a health clinic in the village of Era Ulo, East Timor.  Among others, projects include,:

• Tool sets are being purchased for the club’s Vocational Training program in East Timor. Young men are being taught carpentry skills.

• With its Centennial Twin Club (Rotary Club of Turramurra - Australia) eClub One is shipping a complete optometry suite to a needy clinic in Malaysia.

• Support of a clean water project for a village in Rwanda is the club’s first involvement with Engineers Without Borders.

• A literacy project, Ranfurly Library Book Aid, is providing books to needy schools and libraries in poor communities in Pacific island countries.

When you make up with them, eClub One asks that you make a voluntary contribution and that you consider a donation that might be consistent with what you would have paid for lunch at Charlotte Dilworth South End or club where you might have made up.  Your voluntary donation will help support eClub One service projects and support the cost of the Web site for make-ups 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  You can make an online credit card contribution, or write a check and send by mail. Your donation is non-deductible.

Rotary International Past President Glenn Estess Sr. has expressed confidence in a strong future for Rotary eClub One. In a meeting with Rotary eClub One President Chris Joscelyne, Glenn Estess said that the world's first online Rotary Club is demonstrating the viability of Rotary fellowship and service online.

A Rotary club of District 5450 Colorado with its President in Sydney Australia, its Secretary in Oregon, USA, and its board members in various cities of the United States, Canada and Australia may sound like a strange idea, but it is working smoothly as Rotary eClub One expands its membership worldwide.

Members communicate via the club website and via teleconference, email, voice over IP, and in face-to-face meetings at various locations.

An initiative of District 5450, the Internet-based Rotary club was chartered in January 2002. It is Rotary's first eClub, leading the way as other Rotary Districts establish eClubs in Finland, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, India, Turkey, Greece, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Norway, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and in six states of the United States.
