Two Scheduled For Induction into Membership
Club secretary Kay D. May reported to the Board that Whitney Simpson and
Eric Jones are scheduled for induction into membership Friday, Aug. 14.
Myrna Adams asked that her application be placed on hold for now.
The board accepted with regret the resignations of Dennis McGarry, Andrea
McGowan, and E. J. Rabell.
As part of an effort to improve the clubs attendance, Ed King will
distribute attendance reports and will send an email to members who miss two
consecutive meetings.
President Dale Harrold reported that since Andrea McGowan has resigned, we
are looking for a new Administration Committee Chairperson. Andrea has
agreed to fill roles for Head Table in August. Jeff Morgart is handling
Sergeant at Arms for August.
Fund-raising Chair Kate Richards gave the following update:
* This years projects focus on how to raise money externally not just
from members (OPM other peoples money)
* Proposals include:
* Partnering with local restaurants coupons to encourage patronage,
club to get either a % of the nights food sales or sales from a specific
item such as appetizer or dessert. Date for this is tentatively set for
Tuesday Sept 22nd. We will only focus on restaurants located in
Southpark, Dilworth and South End for this event.
* Beach Night Friday February 26th.
* Dance, Silent Auction and Casino night.
* Advance ticket sales to generate attendance
· Fenton Erwin and Joe Smith are co-chairs of the Membership
Committee. Fenton presented the Membership Committee goals and tactics
* Goal is to have 80 members by June 30, 2010
* New member recruitment is an obligation of each existing member
* Emphasis is on increasing number of guests attending
* Club members must treat guests differently than in the past
* Seek out and greet/meet guests
* Each guest will receive a personal contact the following week from a
committee member other than sponsor
* Each guest will receive material about Rotary and the Club
* Competition and Membership Campaign
* From 9/4/09 to 12/18/09, Club will be divided into 3 teams
* Teams will challenge other teams to bring guests to meetings
* The team with the most guests will be recognized and presented a
gift
* Individual club member sponsoring the most new members will be
recognized and given a gift
* Membership Recognition (STARS) Program
* Red star to be placed on the badge of the sponsor for new members
* Red star for 1-5 new members
* Silver star for 6-11
* Gold Star for each new member above 12
* Corollary for obtaining new members: Increase Club revenues
* Advertise program in the newsletter for each club in district
* Provide coupons for X $ off the price of meal for make up Rotarians
from other clubs
* Board approved the Membership Committee proposal and plan
Public Relations Chair and Dilworthian Editor Lamar Gunter reported:
* Flight of Honor continues to get good publicity. 40 applications on
the waiting list for flight next spring. Next Flight is Saturday, Sept 19.
* Lamar also asked for stories about things of personal interest for
the newsletter. He will run these stories in The Dilworthian.
Service Chair Ron Melvin reported:
* Adopt-A-Street - Jeff Morgart will lead 3 street clean up days per
year
* This months Social next social is Aug. 25 at Crisis Assistance
The board was told the next STAR breakfast will be in September. David
Hodgkins gave an update on the Alto Cayma trip and reminded the board that
the group is leaving Friday, Aug.14.
DilWorth Noting
August Social Set For Crisis Assistance
The Clubs next Social will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Crisis
Assistance Ministry, 500 Spratt St. Crisis Assistance has been a key
partner for our local community, and by volunteering your time you will make
an impact for this worthy cause - especially in the climate we are in now.
This event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The volunteer
activities will involve sorting clothes with your fellow Rotarians and their
guests. Plan to wear comfortable clothing.
All-Mecklenburg Rotary Meeting Set Sept. 25
Jim Brinkley, Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Global Private
Client Group will be the featured speaker at a meeting for all Mecklenburg
Rotarians Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The meeting at the Blake Hotel will be approximately $26 each and parking
will be complimentary. Individual members will sign up through our club.
The meeting WILL NOT SUBSTITUTE for our meeting as has been done for past
all-Mecklenburg meetings, but it will count as a makeup for anyone who
attends and needs a makeup. Our club will hold its regular meeting that
week on Friday, Oct. 2.

Representative Sue Myrick. A lot has been happening and he will try to
bring us up to date on what and why.
Aug. 21 Roads and Bridges in the Charlotte Region -- Barry Moose,
Chief Engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportations
Charlotte Region. He will talk about the transportation infrastructure in
the Charlotte Region and what is ahead for it.
Aug. 28 Official Visit by District 7680 Governor Karen Shore. Each
District
Governor visits each club in the District, meets with the officers and
addresses the full membership
