District Governor Karen Shore Urges
Attendance at Leadership Seminar
Dear Rotarian,
DON'T MISS THE MEMBERSHIP/LEADERSHIP SEMINAR, to be held at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel, 201 S. McDowell Street, Charlotte, NC. on Saturday, August 1st (8:00
a.m. to noon).
This event is for EVERY Rotarian as we focus heavily on retention techniques
to keep your club members engaged, in addition to recruiting new quality
Rotarians. Every club is being asked to maintain at least an 80% retention
rate with their members this year, so Membership Chairs, Club Trainers, Club
Service Chairs will especially benefit by attending. Share the ride over and
share the ideas...
The seminar is a great way to introduce Rotary beyond the club to your new
members. Club leaders, invite those new folks to join you for this half-day
session.
The club-level leadership development program is a new component this year
that will increase Rotarians' effectiveness in your clubs and professions by
cultivating leadership skills.
START THE RI MEMBERSHIP MONTH WITH THE RIGHT STEP BY ATTENDING THE AUGUST
1st EVENT! Your time invested will be well worth it. Register on-line at

Yours in Rotary Service,
Karen A. Shore

Donations Boost Flight of Honor
Fourteen members donated a total of $438 for the Sept. 19th Flight of Honor
for World War II veterans. That was almost enough money to sponsor former
member and Past President Harry Stewart who will be on the flight.
John Barringer won the raffle and donated his half of the pot, $23, to the
Flight of Honor. Most donated checks to Dilworth Charities for the Flight.
If you mark your check Flight of Honor in the memo line and donate to
Dilworth Charities, the donation is deductible on your federal income tax.
If the 51 who have not donated yet will each give at least $10, their
donations will sponsor a second veteran. This is a Rotary District 7680
project and we already have filled the September flight and have started a
waiting list for the next flight. Rotarians all over the country are
sponsoring veterans who are on other flights of honor from as far away as
California.

Update on Alto Cayma Mission
Just a reminder- Joy Rucker, Kay May, Tricia King, Kayce King, Ed King,
David Hodgkins, Frank Kiker and two of Frank's Nephews and District Governor
Elect Firoz Peera will leave Friday, August 14th for the annual 10-day trip
to Alto Cayma, Peru. August is Charlotte Dilworth South End Rotary Month in
Alto Cayma.
They will be building a new house for Elsa and Samuel who recently lost
everything when their previous shelter burned to the ground. Samuel cannot
work due to the burns he got in the fire and the family needs our help! Our
club has contributed to the cause, but there are more funds needed to make
sure the job is done. We always offer everyone in the club the opportunity
to contribute so that even though they cannot come on this particular trip,
they can be part of the overall project. Please bring your checks Friday
made out to Dilworth Charities-write Alto Cayma Project in the memo line.
Your contributions are needed and will be much appreciated by Elsa, Samuel
and their family.
