Club Website Displays New Look

By Richard Pockat

Club Webmaster

Hackers breaking into the web server for the club’s website accelerated the
need for creation of a new site, now nearly completed. The new site will
have more emphasis on members and club activities and also have easy links
to the newly updated District website and the Rotary International website,
including a newsfeed from RI.

The new site (www.charlottedilworthrotary.org/) has been designed to be more
attractive to prospective members looking for our club and to identify our
club’s geographic location within Charlotte, including links to information
about Charlotte, Dilworth neighborhood and South End.

Our club is active in a number of projects, both for World Community service
and Local Community service. It is planned for more specific information and
photographs to be available on the website about these projects.

The home page will feature the “Dashboard” with current membership
information. There is also a box that displays the sum of volunteer hours
recorded by the club with a link to the volunteer hours sign-in page. We
have been averaging about 1000 hours recorded per year, but likely many
hours go unrecorded. Please take a few minutes after your volunteer time to
record it on the website.

The bulk of the up-to-date information comes from the Dilworthian, so please
help Lamar out by contributing news.

The Rotarian’s July Issue Launches New Rotary Year

John Kenny, Rotary International President for 2009-2010 sets the tone for
his year in his letter by writing “The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands.”
Rotary is a worldwide organization, but it is nothing without the ordinary
weekly meetings of Rotarians in their home clubs.

He writes, “In Rotary, everything we are, and everything we aspire to
become, lies in the hands of Rotarians in their clubs. If our clubs are
congenial and our meetings well run, if our service is carefully planned and
competently carried out, if our members are qualified, honest, and respected
in their vocations and communities, then all of Rotary will thrive.”

He explains that water, health, hunger and literacy will be the emphasis in
the year ahead.

Other items from the magazine’s July contents:

Scot’s honor

John Kenny’s goals, from clean water to attracting new members, are the main
courses of his tenure. Important weekly side dishes are the Falkirk
Football Club scores.

Showing up for life

Bill Gates Sr, talks about raising children, supporting his community, and
the Gates Foundation’s relationship with Rotary. In an accompanying Q&A,
the foundation’s cochair tells us what it’s like having his son as his boss.

Craig’s list

A photo essay brings together a Rotarian from Washington, USA,.and a “Lost
Boy” from South Sudan, who teamed up to improve a Sudanese village.

There are many other shorter items in the July issue.
