Board Approves Change in Nominating Panel
The Clubs Board of Directors approved changing the nominating committee for
officers and directors to include the current President and the President
Elect with the three Immediate Past Presidents. The clubs bylaws will be
reviewed and submitted to the membership for approval.
Secretary Kay May reported at the Sept. 14 directors meeting that Eric Jones
will be installed as a member at this weeks meeting Sept. 18. She also
reported that the club currently has five prospective members. They are
A.J. Thomas, Stan Luther, Avis Granger, Dale Dorsey and Mary Sherrill.
Current membership stands at 63.
Ed King presented the treasurers report for Joy Rucker, with the following
points noted:
* Total Operating Revenues are $11,028 YTD which are 20% of annual
budget
* Total Operating Expenses are $11,665 YTD which are 21.4% of annual
budget
* Total Charitable Revenue YTD is $3,174 for 11.46% of annual budget
The Board approved the August Treasurers report.
Other reports included:
· Ralph Lovejoy has assumed the role as head of Club Administration
· Fund Raising The date for the Restaurant night event is now
November 4, 2009.
· Membership Joe Smith / Fenton Erwin
o Sign in sheets at the Sergeant at Arms table are to capture visitors
names and Emails. Joe Smith sends a follow up letter from this list. This
is also to be used to recognize members who bring guests & visitors.
o Ron Skufca is identifying businesses in the area for potential member
prospects
o Fenton discussed plans for creating competition among members
o Fenton also has a group looking at the price of the raffle ticket
prices
o Ed King sent a list of members who missed the past two meetings. Board
is encouraged to follow up with members who have missed meetings.
· Ron Melvin reported:
o The Service Committee consisting of Ron Melvin, John Barringer and
Dewey Jenkins met and provided a prioritized list of groups to fund for
2010. The amount for each will be requested in Feb 2010.

o We are moving forward with establishing an Interact Club. He is
meeting with teachers at Garinger High School to discuss this.
o He is looking into another Adopt-A-Street day for the club.
It was noted that the Rotary Foundation Banquet is November 16, 2009. A
motion was made for the club to pay for members who attend the Banquet for
the first time and the Board approved.
Kay May proposed that our Club participate in the Youth Exchange Club as an
Outbound Sponsor Club. Our Club responsibilities are as follows
o Meet with Karen Steffans our Districts Youth Exchange Representative
and the student
o Provide a same sex counselor that will stay in contact with the student
while she/he is abroad
o Give the club an update periodically on the students activities while
abroad
o When the student returns, schedule a presentation to the club by the
student
o As an Outbound Sponsor, we do not have any financial responsibility or
expense.
o Ron Melvin made the motion for our Club to be an Outbound Sponsor for a
Youth Exchange Student. Dale Harrold seconded and the board approved.
Ed King reported that he has the perfect attendance list. He will provide
this to Dale and Kay. Kay will order the pins and when these are here, we
will schedule the perfect attendance pin presentations at an upcoming
meeting.
Corey Wilhelm reported that the Clubs next monthly social is scheduled for
Thursday Oct 8th at Kay Mays home. This social is to honor our new
members.

Numbers Show Charlotte Is International City
Beverly Grant, Executive Director of International House, cited hard numbers
to show the extent to which Charlotte has become an international city.
Below are some of the numbers.
Approximately 12% of Mecklenburg County's population was born outside of the
US.
69% entered the U.S. later than 1990
· 54% are from Latin America
· 23% are from Asia
· 11% are from Africa
· 10% are from Europe
Charlottes foreign born population grew 53% to 104,789 between
2000-2005
750+ foreign-owned companies from 46 countries provide nearly 45,000
jobs
Over 300 multicultural clubs, and religious organizations and 11
International Chambers of Commerce and business organizations.
14% of Charlotte residents speak a language other than English at home
10,000 students in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are from 102
countries
720 international students attend UNCC from 50 countries
6,480 international students attend CPCC enrolled from 160 countries

Club Begins Coat Drive for Crisis Assistance
Please bring gently used or new coats and jackets for Crisis Assistance
Ministry. This is an annual effort by our club and the donations are needed
by October 15. We need coats and jackets for all sizes and ages.
Come to Airport to Welcome Home World War II Veterans from Their Flight of
Honor
Rotary District 7680s second Flight of Honor for World War II veterans.
Come to Charlotte Douglas International Airport Zone D on the ticket level
at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to welcome the veterans back home after a day
in D.C. visiting the World War II Memorial and other sites of interest to
the veterans. Wear your Rotary shirts and hats and bring family members
with you so we have a large crowd to welcome them home.

Gus Psomadakis saw his surgeon Thursday a.m. and was told that everything
looks good. Gus said he is feeling much better and is progressing well. He
hopes to be back at Rotary soon.
