New Member William W. MacDonald, Retired Physician

Club Inducts William W. MacDonald

William W. MacDonald became a member of Charlotte Dilworth South End Rotary Club in an induction Jan. 22 by President Dale Harrold. Ralph Lovejoy sponsored Bill for membership and introduced him to the club. Bill is a retired physician.

A native Wilmington, DE, he earned his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and his medical degree from State Univ. of NY Upstate Medical Center at Syracuse. He met his future bride, Jo Ann, while in medical school.

He trained two years in internal medicine in Baltimore and four years in obstetrics and gynecology in Cleveland. All except two years of his 30 years in medicine he practiced here in Charlotte with Charlotte Obstetrics and Gynecologic Associates. During his career he chaired a professional standard/practice board at Carolinas Medical Center and was on the board of a comparable committee at Presbyterian Hospital.

An Eagle Scout, he volunteered with the Boy Scouts to teach first aid. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.. He also volunteers as a Precinct 74 election worker, along with Ed King, Ralph Lovejoy and Bob Teague.

He retired two and a half years ago. In retirement, Bill and Joni travel extensively. Bill is working on his passion for trout fishing. Later this year he will return to Idaho to such famous spots as Henry’s Fort and Last Chance, Idaho.

He and Jo Ann have a son, Andy, who is an attorney in Salisbury, MD; and two daughters, Nancy, a marketing director for the Speed Channel in Charlotte and Kathy, a physical therapist in Reading, PA.

Bill said his interests are grandchildren, travel, current events, training our Red Doberman puppy Syra, fishing, boating, and relaxing at our Condo in Litchfield by the Sea, SC.
