<p class=MsoNormal>Two new Paul Harris Fellows were honored at the April 17 meeting
and the April 24 will honor the Rotary Foundation and feature an address by
Rotary District 7680 Governor Bob Wilson.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Ed and Tricia King surprised their daughter Kayce King by making
her a new Paul Harris Fellow during a visit with Charlotte Dilworth South End
Rotary Club.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Kayce is a member of a Winston-Salem Rotary Club. She has
been a long–time supporter of the Rotary projects in Alto Cayma and plans
to join our club members for the planned mission trip to Peru in August.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Dale Harrold, president-elect of our club, became a new Paul
Harris fellow at the meeting last week. Dale has been a Rotarian since 1988
and a member of our club since 2003. Previously he was a member of Rotary

Honor gave 120 World War II veterans a day to remember as they were honored
with a free trip to D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial and other sites of
interest in Washington.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>The veterans had such a great time
talking with their comrades and enjoying the send-off and welcome home they
received that many said they could not find words to express their feelings. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>The USO at Charlotte Douglas
International Airport provided a send off with doughnuts and volunteers waving
American flags. When they returned Saturday evening there were more volunteers
waving flags as they exited the US Air chartered plane. When they exited the
secure area there were family, friends and Rotarians there to greet them with
flags, applause, banners, hugs from children and grandchildren, and sincere
thanks for what they had done for the world during the war.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>Occasionally people in civilian
clothes have saluted the flag during the pledge of allegiance at our meetings
and that was once improper protocol. Changes in federal law have made it
permissible for veterans of military service to salute instead of placing their
hands over their heart while facing the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'> “The
military salute is a unique gesture of respect that marks those who have served
in our nation’s armed forces,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs
Dr. James B. Peake. “This provision allows the application of that honor
in all events involving our nation’s flag.” </span> <span
